ST. PATRICK'S DAY MARTINIS - The Scarlet O'Hara Martini - Whiskey Goes Green!

I can't think of Ireland or St. Patrick's Day without thinking of one of my favorite fictional heroines, Scarlett O'Hara and one of my favorite movies "Gone with the Wind."

The Scarlett O'Hara Martini is a "martini-ized" Whiskey Sour using lime instead of lemon and powdered sugar instead of a sugar cube. The green coloring is to make the drink the color of Scarlett's eyes and give it that St. Patrick's Day color - you are most welcome to leave it out and just rim the glass in the green sugar crystals if you like!

ST. PATRICK'S DAY MARTINIS - The Nutty Irishman

ST. PATRICK'S COCKTAILS

The Nutty Irishman is a classic cocktail that's been around for quite a while. It's obvious how the drink got it's name - it uses Frangelico (for the Nutty part) and Bailey's Irish Cream (hence the Irishman part!) It's a very creamy drink with a subtle nut flavor and it goes down very easy!

Some versions omit the cream and you can do that, just make the Frangelico and the Bailey's 2 ounces each! You can also use milk or half & half to cut down on the calories and thin the cocktail down. The green and white jimmies are a fun way to rim the glass for St. Patrick's Day, but you can always use chocolate jimmies if you want to add a bit of chocolate flavor to the mix!

ST. PATRICK'S COCKTAILS

What would St. Patrick's Day be without a classic Irish Coffee (Caife Gaelach)? Absolutely nothing! So, I have adapted that wonderful and historical beverage here as a cold version for your martini glass!

This Irish Coffee Martini is a lovely adaptation of one of my favorite cocktails of all time. I lived in the Bay Area for several decades and was lucky enough to have enjoyed the original, hot version of Irish Coffee many times at The Buena Vista Cafe in San Francisco - where the original owner, Jack Koeppler, made this cocktail famous!

There's a fascinating history behind Irish Coffee at The Buena Vista's website - yes, that lovely pub is still there at Hyde and Beach on Fisherman's Wharf and I encourage you to drop in and enjoy one of their famous Irish Coffees if you're ever in San Francisco!

ST. PATRICK'S COCKTAILS

For your Tequila Lovers here is a fun St. Patrick's Day Martini where the ingredients combine to give a nice green color! It's sort of a take off on a margarita with the sweet coming from the pineapple juice and the sour from the lime so feel free to blend it with ice instead of shake it like a martini - either way it's a winner!

Fun St. Patrick's Day Fact:
The OFFICIAL SYMBOL OF IRELAND is the Irish harp - the shamrock is the national flower.

ST. PATRICK'S DAY MARTINIS - The Blarney - Tini, Whiskey Cocktail

Well, the Oscars are over and it's time for St. Patrick's Day Martinis! I had some fun with these and designed the recipe card with great graphic shamrocks and added a fun little Irish saying or blessing to each martini recipe to keep with the Irish theme. There are eight Irish themed St. Patrick's Day Martinis for you to enjoy - one for each day before March 17th!

First up is The Blarney-Tini. This Irish whiskey based martini is a wonderful combination of whiskey, mint and cream and will warm the cockles of your little Irish loving heart. It has a soft green color and is garnished with green mint candies so it's a perfect match to the green of your St. Patrick's Day party celebrations!

Here's a little St. Patrick's Day fact for you to share with all your Irish Loving friends: St. Patrick’s Day is observed on March 17 because that is the feast day of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland.
