ST. PATRICK'S DAY MARTINIS - The Shillelagh Martini

BUY The Shillelagh Martini Card HERE.

ST. PATRICK'S COCKTAILS

Tomorrow is St. Patrick's Day and here is my last martini before we all stuff ourselves with corned beef and cabbage and toast to the Emerald Isle!

The Shillelagh Martini is a gin based martini with an orange juice mix and a splash of Blue Curacao to turn it green for St. Patty's Day - the green sugar crystal rim will probably also turn your tongue green so if you forgot to wear green this might save you from getting pinched!

Just in case you didn't know: A Shillelagh is not a musical instrument! It is a walking stick and club traditionally made out of Blackthorn wood or Oak then rubbed with butter and placed in the chimney to cure giving the stick it's shiny, black color. It was originally used as a weapon in Irish Shillelagh Fighting (a form of Bataireacht - an Irish Martial Art) - which was a gentleman's practice similar to the duel.

See, you CAN learn something new every day!

ST. PATRICK'S DAY MARTINIS - The Scarlet O'Hara Martini - Whiskey Goes Green!

I can't think of Ireland or St. Patrick's Day without thinking of one of my favorite fictional heroines, Scarlett O'Hara and one of my favorite movies "Gone with the Wind."

The Scarlett O'Hara Martini is a "martini-ized" Whiskey Sour using lime instead of lemon and powdered sugar instead of a sugar cube. The green coloring is to make the drink the color of Scarlett's eyes and give it that St. Patrick's Day color - you are most welcome to leave it out and just rim the glass in the green sugar crystals if you like!

ST. PATRICK'S DAY MARTINIS - The Nutty Irishman

BUY The Nutty Irishman Cocktail Card HERE.

ST. PATRICK'S COCKTAILS

The Nutty Irishman is a classic cocktail that's been around for quite a while. It's obvious how the drink got it's name - it uses Frangelico (for the Nutty part) and Bailey's Irish Cream (hence the Irishman part!) It's a very creamy drink with a subtle nut flavor and it goes down very easy!

Some versions omit the cream and you can do that, just make the Frangelico and the Bailey's 2 ounces each! You can also use milk or half & half to cut down on the calories and thin the cocktail down. The green and white jimmies are a fun way to rim the glass for St. Patrick's Day, but you can always use chocolate jimmies if you want to add a bit of chocolate flavor to the mix!
