TRANSYLVANIAN MARTINI - A fun black Halloween Cocktail

The TRANSYVANIAN MARTINI

The Transyvlanian Martini is definitely not sour grapes for Halloween, in fact it's sweet from the Concord grape and white grape mixers.  To keep it from being too sweet there's a little bit of lemon juice and a healthy dash of cardamom, cinnamon and nutmeg.  Think spiced mulled grapes in place of the traditional spiced apple cider.

This is a perfect cocktail to turn into a non-alcoholic mocktail for the kids and non-alcoholic guests at your party, you simply remove the Blavod vodka from the recipe!  Add a little black food coloring to the virgin version if you want the same deep, inky black night effect.

Your Trick or Treaters will go bats over this one!

ORANGE SCORPION MARTINI - Halloween Cocktail

The Orange Scorpion Martini is not something I made up, this is actually a variation of the famous Scorpion or Scorpion Bowl of Trader Vic fame.  I think there might be more recipes for this cocktail than there are scorpions wandering the deserts!  Even Trader Vic, who made the Scorpion Bowl famous, published three different recipes and not one of the published ones was the recipe he used in the actual cocktail he served in any of his restaurants (even the world of cocktails has it's trade secrets.)

While many of the recipes call for the almond flavored Orgeat Syrup and a brandy, this recipe uses Creme de Almond and Grand Marnier instead. Just another of the many recipes that abounds for this little cocktail with a sting!

Yes, I do suggest the
Scorpion Sucker as a garnish for this Halloween version - otherwise you're not scaring your party guests, you're taking them on a tropical vacation!

GREAT CAESAR'S GHOST MARTINI - Halloween Cocktail #25 of 31

The GREAT CAESAR'S GHOST MARTINI
Halloween Cocktail #25 of 31 Monstrously Marvelous Martinis
from The Martini Diva

The Great Caesar's Ghost Martini is really a Bloody Caesar in disguise.  What, you ask, is a Bloody Caesar?  It's a Bloody Mary made with Clamato juice instead of tomato juice!

There are two versions of the origins of the Bloody Caesar with version one being my favorite because it centers around Tony Bennett who, according to the story, was due to go onstage at Caesar's in Las Vegas and was a tad bit worse the wear from a rough night. He asked the bartender to mix him something to perk him up and was ultimately served up a Bloody Mary that had been pepped up with clams and clam juice.

Version number two is less glamorous but most likely the closer to the truth of the two. In verstion two, bartender Walter Chell created the drink for the 1969 for the opening of the Marcos restaurant.  It became an instant hit in Canada and Mott's even came up with a juice inspired by the Bloody Caesar - Clamato!

So, now ya know.  I just think it was a perfect way to get to name a drink The Great Caesar's Ghost Martini.  And speaking of Caesar's ghost you can read more about that little bit of history on this martini's recipe page.

GRAVEYARD SUNRISE MARTINI - Halloween Cocktail #24 of 31

Halloween Cocktail #24 of 31 Monstrously Marvelous Martinis
from The Martini Diva

The Graveyard Sunrise Martini is another great cocktail that makes use of blood orange juice, one of my favorite mixers for Halloween because of the deep, red-orange color.  This time I've made use of it in a Halloween variation of a classic Tequila Sunrise.

Not only is this a fun name for a Halloween martini, it's fun looking with a great layered look from the pomegranate syrup that settles to the bottom of your glass.  Be sure to follow the instructions on how to get the pomegranate syrup in so it settles to the bottom, it's weight is heavier than the orange juice and tequila so as long as you do it right the bottom of your Graveyard Sunrise Martini will glow like fire!

Halloween Cocktail #23 of 31 Monstrously Marvelous Martinis
from The Martini Diva

The Dripping Heart Martini is a classic gin martini simply garnished with a pickled beet heart that will slowly bleed into the cocktail.  It's so Edgar Allen Poe that I just have to treat you to this fun animation of The Tell Tale Heart narrated by James Mason:
