SPARKLING PEAR MARTINI

If you're a pear fan this Sparkling Pear Martini is a great way to ring in the New Year. The Champagne and pear flavors really blend nicely for a subtle taste. I like fresh pear juice from the Comice pear if I can get them but bottled juice is okay. What's critical in this martini is a good pear brandy and a quality Champagne or sparkling wine.

If you're new to drinking Champagne be aware that a sparkling wine cannot truly be called Champagne unless it comes from the Champagne region of France. All other "champagnes" are technically sparkling wines that use the champenoise method, many of which are excellent choices for your New Year's Champagne Martinis!

A little reminder for a safe, happy and healthy New Year's celebration: According to the National Highway Traffic Commission 41% of all traffic fatalities occur during the New Year's period.

PLEASE DRINK RESPONSIBLY, assign a designated driver if you're going to be traveling anywhere, make use of the free taxi rides many cities offer and be prepared with a place for your own guests to stay overnight!

MAY YOU ALL HAVE
A SAFE, HAPPY NEW YEAR'S EVE!

NEW YEAR'S MARTINIS - Champagne Martini #4

The Raspberry Resolution Martini might just be my favorite of all my new Champagne martinis. It uses some of my favorite ingredients - Champagne (of course), Raspberry Vodka, Chambord and Crème de Cassis!

It's a variation of my Kir Royale Cocktail (which is basically a classic Kir Royale Cocktail) and if you would like a little history on Crème de Cassis check that post out.

You gotta watch out for this martini - it's so delicious you can easily over indulge so pace yourself!

If you're going out on New Year's be sure to appoint a Designated Driver, don't drink and drive and keep an eye out on your friends to keep them safe too. Drink Responsibly this holiday season!

NEW YEAR'S MARTINIS - Champagne Martini #2

My New Year's Champagne Martini #2 is the MERRY MIMOSA MARTINI. This is a twist on the classic Mimosa cocktail of Champagne and Orange juice, the addition of Cointreau and a bit of sugar pumps up the mimosa to the next level.

If I can get my hands on enough ripe tangerines I will make this with fresh tangerine juice instead of orange juice because I love tangerines. Be sure to add the Champagne after you pour the other ingredients into your chilled martini glass - if you put the Champagne into the martini shaker and shake it with the other ingredients the effervescence of the bubbly can build up and your martini shaker can blow it's top off!

NEW YEAR'S MARTINIS - Champagne Martini #1

With 2010 fast approaching there are a lot of parties and celebrations being planned for New Year's and the favorite beverage for this special holiday has traditionally been Champagne. Starting today, and continuing through New Year's Day, I am posting six Champagne cocktails that make wonderful martinis which feature the effervescence of that famous sparkling wine.

Today's martini is the Bubbling Fruit Brandy Martini, a simple mixture of your favorite flavored fruit brandy and Champagne. I love this one with apricot or cherry brandy and have also tried it with blackberry brandy and pear brandy.

Whichever flavor you choose be sure to add a slice of the corresponding fresh fruit for your garnish. If you want to spice it up a bit try adding a dash of spice that blends well with the fruit to your rimming sugar!

CHRISTMAS MARTINI - Candy Cane Martini

The Candy Cane Martini is one of my most popular Christmas Martinis. It's also one of the most simple recipes - 1.5 ounces of chilled vodka to 1/2 ounce of Peppermint Schnapps - shake with ice, pour into your chilled martini glass and rim with crushed mini candy canes. If you're lazy just hang a mini candy cane on the rim BUT the rimming trick is really festive.

can now be found here.

The Mulled Cidertini is a perfect martini for sipping in front of the Christmas Yule log in your fireplace! It's a Christmas version of the classic apple martini with the addition of the traditional fruits and spices of mulled cider!

These are really nice served with your favorite Christmas cookies - mine are my Mom's Gingersnaps or my PopArtDiva Cookies. If this doesn't bring you memories of ice skating and building snowmen then I'm sorry but you must be a Grinch!

The
Chocolate and Mint
SNOWBALL MARTINI RECIPE

Nothing quite says Christmas Cheer like chocolate and peppermint and the Snowball Martini has both in abundance! The Peppermint Schnapps and White Creme de Cacao blend nicely with some cream for a lovely white snowball of a martini.

The sparkle for your Snowball Martini comes from the edible silver flakes you sprinkle on top for the garnish! Can't get more holiday spirit than a sparkly snowball in a martini glass!

CHRISTMAS MARTINIS - Raspberries are Holly Berries!

The
has moved here.

The Holly Berry Martini has turned raspberries into Holly Berries for the holidays in this gin based martini. This one uses fresh raspberry juice - I make mine by tossing raspberries into my Bullet mixer and blending until it's as liquid as I can get it, then I strain it and pour that through a coffee filter. If you can find pure raspberry juice in the grocery aisle you can use that too, much easier, but I've not been able to find pure raspberry juice in my area.

If you want to really dress this martini up for Christmas roll the whole raspberries in sugar for the garnish and add a lovely green mint leaf!

CHRISTMAS MARTINIS - Cranapple-Tini

The
Apple and Cranberry
CHRISTMAS CRANTINI RECIPE
has moved here.

This one is for all of you who love my apple martinis. Instead of using apple juice you use cranberry juice - great for the extra anti-oxidants and vitamins and it really gives this a holiday flavor.

My favorite part of the martini? Well, aside from the booze, I LOVE the sugared cranberries. They're like fresh fruit sweet tarts - they'll set your taste buds to 10 on the wow dial!

CHRISTMAS MARTINIS - Winter Snowflake Martini

The
WINTER SNOWFLAKE MARTINI RECIPE
has moved here.

I have a friend who loves Amaretto so I created this martini for her. My favorite part of this martini is the chocolate flavored candy canes, lol. I found great ones made with Hershey's Chocolate last year at Walmart and nearly ate them all before they made it to a martini!

Don't use regular mint candy canes - the mint doesn't go well with the Amaretto, or at least I don't think it does. If you can't find the chocolate candy canes garnish with an almond cookie or rim the glass with the nutmeg mixed with sugar.

CHRISTMAS MARTINIS - White Christmas Martini

The White Christmas Martini is one of my most popular Christmas Martinis because it's basically spiked egg nog! Yup, a little Captain Morgan's rum and a sprinkling of Edible Gold Flakes and you have the classic holiday cheer transported into a classy holiday martini!
I just bought a quart of egg nog and my annual bottle of Captain Morgan's just for this delish martini. There's something so "It's a Wonderful Life" about egg nog at Christmas time. Every time a martini glass clinks and angel gets its wings, lol!

THANKSGIVING MARTINIS! Fall Apple Jack Martini

Updated November 2015
This recipe has moved to the database below.

Another whiskey based martini - like the Cranberry A Go-Go below only this time using apple as the flavor. This reminds me of Apple Jack - a liqueur distilled from apples - though I think the whiskey actually gives this a more complex flavor than Apple Jack.

This martini is perfect served with smoked cheeses and could be a nice Man Martini for those macho types who scoff at girly drinks, lol. It's sweet but it's got Jack Daniels in it - just lower the level of apple pucker and put more Jack in it - you won't hear any male grumbling at all.

GINGERBREAD MARTINI

 GINGERBREAD MARTINI Cocktail Recipe

The Gingerbread Martini is my 2nd favorite holiday cocktail* because it tastes just like my Mom's Gingersnap cookies (Recipe below). Those have been and will always be my favorite cookies ever, but cookies take a lot more work than making a cocktail. What's really cool about this Gingerbread Martini is it's like getting gingerbread cookies and milk together with the added benefit of booze.

Gingerbread Martini Cocktail Recipe With Ingredients and Instructions

INGREDIENTS
1/2 Oz Coffee Vodka
1 Oz. Irish Cream Liqueur

GARNISH: Mini Gingerbread Man Cookie

DIRECTIONS

THANKSGIVING MARTINIS! Cranberry Martini!

So, why do I call this the CRANBERRY A-GO-GO MARTINI? Because it's made with whiskey and my baby boomer brain immediately thought of the famous Whiskey A GO GO, the famous nightclub on The Strip (Sunset Blvd.) in L.A. The Whiskey opened in 1964 and most of the icons of Rock & Roll played there or wandered in at one time or another during it's heyday in the 60s and 70s. I know, the only thing that really has to do with martinis is both involve booze but that's how my brain rolls these days, lol.

That being said, if you're a Jack Daniels fan this Cranberry Martini is a perfect Thanksgiving cocktail for you! It brings in the cranberry element of Thanksgiving dinner in a whole new way!

Stop by The Diva of Tiny Foods for some great appetizers to go with your martinis! And if you're feeling the need for some retro pop culture or pop art swing by The PopArtDiva Blog for some trivia, history and other boomer brain spasms like the one above, lol.

THANKSGIVING MARTINIS! Candy Appled Martini

Download the Full Sized, 5x3 Recipe Card in Print Quality Here

The Candy Appled Martini is a fun raspberry-apple flavored martini that uses apple vodka and sour apple pucker for a really nice apple kick. It's just like having a nice apple cider with a little holiday kick. I buy one of those soft candy apples and slice it up for a garnish - the hard coating apples don't slice up too great, lol.

I like to serve this with a small appetizer plate of smoked Gouda and some crackers - nothing too hearty or filling, especially if you're doing this just before your big Thanksgiving dinner.

Hand Painted MARTINI GLASSES

Yes, had to do some hand painted martini glasses!

Each glass is a unique design but I painted in tandem with another glass for a matched set. I used porcelain paints, available at your local Michaels store  art store amd filled them with fun pop art stars, hearts, lightening bolts and other geometric shapes dance around the bowls of each glass in a rainbow of color.

Fine painting details on each shape bring depth of color and interest, and the hand placed rhinestones, faux pearls and other fun three dimensional embellishments add a sparkling of bling.

Nope, I don't just use them to serve cocktails.

HAND PAINTED MARTINI GLASSES - One of a Kind!

These are the first of my NEW HAND PAINTED MARTINI GLASSES that I will be offering for sale at my Etsy store - The Original Art of Pop Art Diva.

I hand paint and design two at a time so that if you want a pair they will have exactly the same color profiles and balance - though all of my glasses will look great with each other.

Unlike many of the "hand painted, original" martini glasses out there - selling for $25 to $35 each - each one of these is an original design, painted by me and not farmed out to a factory overseas.

These are only going to be available for a limited time as one of a kind originals so grab yours quick - they may soon become collectors items!

Each glass is an original design
Hand painted by me - The Martini Diva.
They will sell for $45* each or $80 for a pair.

BLACK WIDOW MARTINI - A HALLOWEEN COCKTAIL

http://themartinidiva.com

The Black Widow Martini
is a grape and blackberry martini that is very sweet which makes it perfect for people who don't like the taste of booze. I was trying to create a dark purple or black martini for Halloween so I used dark purple grape juice for the base. This is a perfect martini for people who don't like the taste of alcohol because the grape juice and sugar content overpower the taste of booze.

Want to have a little more fun with this one? Serve it up from a cauldron steaming from dry ice and don't forget the plastic or gummy spider decorations, after all this is The Black Widow Martini.

I'm also going to upload this background to my Business Branding Graphics store Taking Care of Business sometime tomorrow because it makes a great masthead and graphic for customizable letterheads, fliers, business cards and even matching tees and shoes!!

In the meantime, check out the great products you can get this design and it's sister with the martini on it, Razz-A-Tini:

COCKTAIL SHAKING TIPS

TIPS FOR SHAKING YOUR COCKTAILS

1. Chill the Shaker First - you can do this by sticking it in the fridge/freezer or filling it with ice cubes. If you choose the method of using ice cubes be sure to empty out the melted ice and start with fresh cubes for each drink.

2. When you shaker is nicely chilled add your ice for the drink - I fill the shaker about half full to allow room for the drink ingredients.

3. Shake vigorously with some rhythm - sing, hum or have some good music on in the background, it helps establish a rhythm and it gets you in the mood for cocktail hour too! Remember, some drinks - like a classic gin martini - should be stirred not shaken so keep that in mind. Shaking is fun and part of the ritual of making a martini but stirring can be fun and it's retro - remember those old Thin Man movies and the classic glass cocktail pitcher with a glass stir stick?

4. If your drink is a blended drink like a daiquiri or a colada you're not going to shake at all you're going to use a blender and crushed ice and blend to the consistency of a slushy - think the consistency of that Cherry Icee you loved as a kid. (BTW, blended drinks can cause "brain freeze" so remember to be careful with those first sips!)

5. Unless you're muddling some ingredients, muddle before adding ice and shaking.  I know this sounds like advice you don't need, but you'd be surprised the number of people who try to muddle with all the ingredients present. If there's too much liquid, you won't get the result you're looking for.

6. If you are muddling remember to make use of a cocktail strainer to keep those chunkier elements out of the drink. Remember it's a drink not dinner. Anything that needs to be chewed should be skewered on a martini pick or added to the rim as garnish.

One last reminder, your cocktail will stay colder if you chill your ingredients as well as your martini shaker. Warm ingredients melt the ice quicker and water down the cocktail. Now go forth and shake, shake, shake yourself happy and enjoy!
