ORANGE BLOSSOM MARTINI Cocktail Recipe

Orange Blossom Martini Cocktail Recipe

So made brunch today for some surprise out of town guests who showed up around 11 last night.  It was a big (but nice) surprise for me, however, the surprise for them is I haven't been to the market so all I have on hand for mixing up some brunch cocktails is some orange juice. Booze, of course, is never a problem. My bar is loaded with booze - you know me. It's just the mixers I'm low on. (It was a big week for cool cocktails at my house with the heat index hitting 110 plus.)

No problem, if I have booze and O.J. cocktails will be had ...

RASPBERRY COLADA COCKTAIL

http://themartinidiva.com
Taking it to the Tropics with
The Raspberry Colada

I have this thing for Coladas. I love them. Every time I have a Colada of any kind I am instantly transported back to all my vacations in tropical paradises. I adore the classic Pina Colada, but I'm not at all adverse to adding more fruits. Mostly I add strawberries in my Strawberry Colada, but I had raspberries the other day and no strawberries and was in the mood to have a little beach time (thanks to being subjected to the high desert temps of Tucson) so....

The Raspberry Colada Recipe
1 Oz. Raspberry Vodka
1 Oz. Coconut Rum
1 Oz. Pineapple Rum
1 Oz. Coconut Water
Juice of ½ a Lime
1 Oz. Pineapple Juice
1/3 C. Coconut Flakes
1/4 C. Sugar
Pineapple Spear & Raspberries Garnish

Grind the coconut flakes with the sugar until you have a coarse powder. Dip your glass rim in some pineapple juice, then into the coconut sugar and chill in the freezer.  Pour the vodka and the rums, the coconut water and the pineapple juice into a martini shaker with ice and shake until well chilled.  Pour into your cold martini glass, garnish with your pineapple spear, if you have it, and a few of the raspberries on a cocktail pick and serve.

Mix up a view, play Rupert Holmes ESCAPE, The Pina Colada Song, and take yourself away to a tropical locale!

TEQUILA COCKTAILS

My favorite way to enjoy tequila is in a margarita, usually with some kind of fruit and blended most of the time, but not always! I've been known to enjoy tequila in Old Fashioneds, Bloodies, Collins and even the occasional shot! Below are some my favorites.

BLUEBERRY DAIQUIRI

The Daiquiri is very near and dear to me because it's the very first real cocktail I ever had, thanks to my sister. Having a Daiquiri always brings back memories of her and it is the cocktail that started me on the road to becoming The Martini Diva.

The original Daiquiri was a mixture of rum, lime, and sugar served over ice. Born in Cuba, the Daiquiri was introduced to America by Admiral Lucius W. Johnson of the U.S. Navy who discovered it in his travels. Johnson brought the Daiquiri recipe back to the Army and Navy Club in Washington DC where it became a favorite of many young Naval officers, including a young John Fitzgerald Kennedy. Thanks to Roosevelt's Good Neighbor Policy, which opened up trade to Cuba and the Caribbean, when wartime rationing made whiskey, gin and vodka hard to come by in the 1940s, Cuban rum became a popular substitute and the Daiquiri then began to appear in American bars throughout the country.

Most people today are more familiar with the frozen, fruit blended versions and, though I do like a well prepared classic Daiquiri, I'm not a bit adverse to adding fruit to Daiquiris myself. So, when I was given a huge bag of frozen blueberries recently, a Blueberry Daiquiri seemed a perfect way to make use of them!

BLUEBERRY DAIQUIRI
2 Oz. Light Rum
1/2 C. Frozen Blueberries
1 Oz. Fresh Lime Juice
1 Tbsp. Blueberry Simple Syrup
(recipe for syrup here)
1 C. Ice
Sugar for Rim
Fresh Blueberries for garnish

Rim glass with sugar then chill in the freezer. Add all ingredients, except the fresh blueberries, to a blender and pulse until slushy. Pour into your chilled glass, garnish and enjoy!

National Daiquiri Day is July 19th and National Blueberry Month is in July.
