RECIPE FOR HOMEMADE BLACKBERRY LIQUEUR & VODKA



HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN
BLACKBERRY LIQUEUR
also known as Creme de Mure

If you love blackberries and cocktails the way I love blackberries and cocktails this is going to make for a very happy Happy Hour!

By the by, leave out the sugar and you have Homemade Blackberry Vodka!

How do you do it? Simple:

1-1/2 Cups of Fresh Blackberries
1-3/4 Cups of Good Quality Vodka
1/2 C. Simple Syrup

Combine all the ingredients together in a clean, sterilized infusion jar or mason jar, refrigerate and let them all get happy together for about 2 weeks.  Shake the bottle up whenever you open the fridge to encourage more happiness.

Taste test every day after the first week to check the depth of flavor.  When your infusion has met with your approval simply strain the mixture through a fine sieve into a decorative bottle.  Add a fun Cocktail Themed Label and enjoy or give as a gift!

If you want to infuse your Blackberry Vodka a little faster you can muddle some of the blackberries, but you might have to strain the mixture a bit more aggressively to get out all the little blackberry bits. 

If I'm giving this as a gift I like to leave the blackberries whole and leave them in for a prettier presentation.

TIP:  Don't throw out the vodka infused blackberries!  You can spoon these over ice cream or cake and even blend them up for a quick boozy blackberry coulis!

AMARETTO COCKTAILS


What is Amaretto? An almond flavored liqueur made from apricot pits and/or almonds and which, legend has it, was created by a young woman as a gift for Bernardino Luini, one of Leonardo DaVinci's students. Luini needed a model for the Madonna for frescoes in a church in Saronno, Italy and was inspired by a young, widowed innkeeper of the region. Because of her limited means the young woman infused brandy with apricot kernels and presented this as her thanks to Luini for using her as his inspiration for the Madonna.

Is the legend true? I don't know, but it's a beautiful story to fit with a beautiful liqueur.

Yes, there really is a Jimmy Buffett Day, at least there is in Florida where Jimmy Buffett opened his very first Margaritaville store in Key West! I say let's all go with it, pretend we're in Florida and have us some MARGARITAS!!

Feel free to have these Margaritas in a martini glass or a margarita glass. It's not the glass that matters, it's the tequila!
